Bumpdate July 12th

The Weekly Newsletter for Heart of Houston Birth and Wellness Families

July 12th

What a wonderful world!

Happy Monday, everyone! What a whirlwind of a weekend for our amazing midwives. Mary, Rowan, Bethany and student midwife Nolana welcomed THREE babies in less than 48hrs. I was out of town and miss all the action but I'm so excited for all the new parents. Please join me in welcoming the newest members of our Heart of Houston community. Welcome to the world little ones! We are SO happy you're here.

This Weekend

We had a great pregnancy group on Sunday. Even though the group was small we had some really positive feedback about Samina Qureshi tips on hydration and nutrition in hot and humid Houston. The complementary meals from Territory Foods were also well received and we have a few extra here at the office if you'd like to try one. I will upload Samina's handouts to client portal for everyone to check out.

Mocktails Anyone?

We've added another fun and FREE event to the calendar for new and expectants folks. The ladies of Heirbloom Co are hosting a Mamas & Mocktails event at Heart of Houston. Heirbloom Co offers birth and postpartum doula services as well as some incredible products for postpartum recovery. This event has been fully sponsored so tickets are now free and there will be some great giveaways! RSVP here! Join us at 10:30 for our Movement and Breathing class and stay for the mocktails and giveaways! This class is open to both expectant and new parents with nurslings.

The Summer of RSV

My social media feeds have been blowing up with news and questions about RSV and Hand Foot and Mouth infections. According to the CDC, RSV infections are typically rare this time of year but because of closures from COVID we are now experiencing a delayed and alarming surge in cases as things open back up. Newborn's with their immature immune systems are especially at risk for hospitalization from RSV. Hand, Foot and Mouth rarely requires hospitalization and is more common in children under five but it is highly contagious. Here are our tips for avoiding infections this summer.

Keep your family safe by :

  • Continuing to wash and sanitize your hands often.

  • Avoid populated areas.

  • Limit number of visitors around your new baby.

  • Do not allow people to kiss your newborns on the face or hands.

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces often and stay home if you are sick.
